Vienna – Palaces, Parks and Wiener Schnitzel

Amid the showers and thunderstorms, the elegance of Vienna shone through. Braving the upper deck on a tourist bus we refreshed our 10 year old memories of this wonderful city, earphones dutifully placed and excited to reminisce.

Our whirlwind visit included imposing palaces, stunning parks, museums, elegant architecture and midday Mass at St Stephen’s Cathedral. I didn’t get to indulge in the authentic Sacher Torte at the Sacher Hotel as the queue was way too long for the short time we had. As no shops were open (Sunday), everyone was eating!

Overlooking the city skyline, our drinks were delicious and the talented mixologists entertaining. Bruce picked up a few tips and now has plans to add a blowtorch to his arsenal for the bar.

We loved our traditional wiener schnitzel which we enjoyed at the second oldest restaurant in Europe. It was established in 1447 as a restaurant and has continually traded since. Some previous customers include Beethoven and Mark Twain. Very special.
