Monday, 29/9/08 – Oia

Brian, thanks for recommending Oia. We caught the bus into the capital Fira yesterday and there was no comparision. While both places are breathtakingly beautiful, Oia is quiet, understated and elegant while Fira is very touristy and busy. We are sitting on our terrace overlooking the water with a glass of wine while groups of tourists off the cruise ships on the lane/main road far above us take photos of us enjoying the wonderful view of the Caldera. Google Aris Caves on the net if you get a chance.

There are 92 steps to the laneway above, but who’s counting, who needs gyms – Bruce and I are getting plenty of exercise. Living on the side of a cliff has a few advantages, we witnessed a very colourful sunrise this morning, and hope to experience and famous Oia sunset this evening.

We catch a 7am flight to Athens then onto Rome in the morning.

We have enjoyed the Greek food and taken 100s of photos – this place is a photographers dream.
