Not only does London shine with stunning weather
(although the winds are beginning to become decidedly cool), it also shines with stars. One star in particular we saw up close and personal was Michael Crawford, one of our favourites. Our seats were three rows from the stage… what a special night. Michael’s poignant and emotional performance was stunning… something we will always remember. The show was called ‘The Go Between’ and the entire cast were impressive.
There is so much to see in this wonderful city and although we’ve seen a lot of it before, it’s just so good, we’ve loving seeing it all over again! There’s Covent Garden, Oxford, Regent and Piccadilly Street shopping districts which includes stunning arcades, gorgeous department stores Fortnum & Mason (love this one!), Selfridges and the eccentric tudor-inspired Liberty store (those numbers on the price tags were obscene), I mean serious window shopping!
Another highlight was a 2.5 hr walking tour. Our lovely tour guide was a young local actress who entertained our group with riveting historical information and hilarious anecdotes. She was very knowledgeable and obviously loved being a tour guide and was thoroughly enjoyable. We loved walking through Trafalgar Square, past St James palace and Buckingham palace, down Pall Mall and St James
Park.
We’re a little tired, but ‘good’ tired! We’ve walked about 30kms in the last few days exploring this incredible city.
We leave London tomorrow morning for our 5 day tour through the centre of England and North Wales, so I would like to leave you with my impression of Soho:
Take all the grungy cobbled laneways of Melbourne, add an extra layer of grime (no, make that two layers), stir in a large amount of crazy, combine twice as many pubs, restaurants & cafes, add many decibels at all hours and finally… enjoy like it’s Friday night every night of the week.
It’s just marvellous when you get a tour guide who really knows their stuff
Beautiful pictures! The last one is especially fabulous!
The liberty store you mentioned…is that ‘Liberty of London’ by any chance? I know the fabrics I’ve seen are gorgeous but the prices are totally outrageous.
Glad you’ve had such good weather on your trip (so far). Love your description of Soho too
Yes, it is ‘Liberty of London’, but I didn’t see the fabric department – I think it’s one and the same. If the prices are outrageous, then I’d say it’s the same place. You’d love looking around this place Kath, very eccentric (and that’s just the shop assistants!)
Great photos and I am loving your trip, enjoy the tour I can’t wait to hear all about it.
Thanks Nat! Stay tuned… Hope to catch up with posts soon! Xx
Nice photos, but your “Current Location” widget has betrayed the real truth – you’re still in Sydney and they’re all just fancy photoshops!
Thanks Ben, got that one sorted… We can now pretend we’re anywhere in the world really.
