Exquisite Cotswolds

We thought we knew what to expect, which was why the Cotswolds was up there on our list of places to see, but we have been blown away by the spectacular scenery and natural beauty of this area of England.

Our accommodation was a pub in a tiny hamlet called Cold Aston.  Strange name, yes, but try these…  Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping-Campden.  Apart from Cold Aston, our favourite little town was Bourton-on-the-Water, with it’s beautiful fast-flowing stream, stone bridges and ducks with ducklings trailing along behind.  We also had an affection for the tiny village of Snowshill.

No matter what these places are named – they are all deliciously pretty! Cotswolds_yellow Feels like we’ve been happily dumped into the TV series “Escape to the Country” – one of my favourites.

Charming cottages, colourful gardens, cobbled winding laneways, tempting little cafes, unbelievably tasty scones (with clotted cream, mmmm), delightful little homeware/gift boutiques.

Bruce loved driving along the narrow, winding country roads surrounded by stone fences, gurgling streams, fields of bright yellow canola/rapeseed and often complete canopies of greenery resulting in spectacular natural tunnels.  Some of the local inhabitants – a colourful pheasant and a young deer got a little too close, but Bruce did a great job of avoiding them.  It really is a very special place.

I don’t have all the words to do this place justice, so I’ll just let you enjoy the photos.
