Bruce’s Birthday Surprise

We drove from Oxford to London under instructions from Matt to meet him at Waterloo Station at 11.30am.  Today was Bruce’s birthday (and also happened to be Mother’s Day in Australia) and Matt had a surprise in store.

This surprise remained a mystery as we walked along Southbank, past the London Eye and alongside the Thames on a cold, blustery day.  We sat for a while next to a hotdog vendor as Matt periodically checked the time.  As we were sitting enjoying the view and having a chat, Matt finally admitted that we could go ahead and order a hotdog – with the works – as it was a special occasion haha

We then continued to walk alongside the river and came to the iconic OXO tower where we were led to the top floor restaurant where Matt had made a reservation.  It was a spectacular lunch with a birds eye view of the London skyline.  We were so touched that he had gone to this trouble.  Thanks Matt – I’m just a little worried about that chocolate bar lasting you for the next month due to the budget blowout! xx

We then jumped on the Heathrow Express to the airport to catch our flight to Edinburgh.  Our cab driver from Edinburgh airport should have been a comedian – he regaled us with hilarious tales and was also very passionate and proud of his beautiful city.  Once we arrived at the hotel, I asked him to go around the block a few times so that we could hear a few more of his stories.  What an introduction to Scotland.

It was a huge day, but what an enjoyable one!

  • Thanks Don & Shirley – hope you are both well. Yes, we use the same hairdresser and at least this move is close by. Love, Bruce & Mary xx
