Our condo is located in the town of Lahaina on the west coast of Maui. It is waterfront, small and beautiful… but as you may have guessed, we’re hardly ever there! This location has also assisted our turtle count however as we see their little heads pop up right outside our lanai and when we happen to be there at sunset, well, the photos will speak for themselves.
Lahaina is an historical whaling town with a 140 year old banyan tree that needs to be seen to be believed. It is an incredible sight… the size of an entire city block.
There are many interesting little boutiques, jewellers, galleries and an amazing choice of restaurants. Last night I had a cocktail (Lime in the Coconut – that one was for you Ana) at Mick Fleetwood’s restaurant. Great food and live music (no, not Fleetwood Mac). We love to check out as many local musicians as possible when travelling.
While strolling along yet another perfect local beach, up popped a turtle. We followed it along the beach and dived in but couldn’t get close. Hopefully on our snorkeling trip to Lanai (which has been postponed a few days) we’ll have more luck swimming with them.
The Hawaiian people are beautiful, happy and relaxed (is it any wonder), but what’s with the tats? We have never seen as much ink in one place.
Turtle count: 15
