Aaah Florence, we knew we’d love it here!
Yesterday we spent another day on buses and trains to travel from Positano to Florence. If you can avoid the train from Sorrento to Naples, do, it’s not a pleasant trip. The fast train from Naples to Florence was great, beautiful country views, smooth and fast.
It was so exciting to finally see the Duomo from the station as we arrived – we had read so much about this city.
Today we met David, the strong silent type with a bit of a mullet happening, but he is magnificent! Also did some of the churches and some other museums. It’s amazing to think all of this was here before Australia was settled. We also had a look around the markets at the beautiful leather and did some serious window shopping at the gold shops on the Ponte Vecchio bridge.
Our B&B does not have any steps! Bruce booked this one. However, we are still exhausted at the end of each day from all the walking. We are loving the food and the warmth of the Italian people.
By the way, good luck to Ben who flew to China today for work, training the locals. Good on you – have a safe trip – enjoy! We have heard since posting this that it took Ben 38 hrs to reach his destination, side-tracked by a volcano and cylcone. Thanks for letting us know you eventually arrived safety Ben.
The best coffee in Europe is found in Rome and Paris (funny enough the French do the best coffee in Europe). But you are allowing someone to put milk in your coffee. Sacrilege! I have told you both on many occasions the only way to drink coffee is espresso, three sips only drunk immediately it is put in front of you when the coffee is hot enough to scold your lips. Well I did arrive safely… 38 hours after leaving home on a 14 hour trip. We were tag-teamed by the combined forces of an active volcano and a tropical cyclone (going around the volcano in Indonesia meant that Hong Kong was in the middle of the typhoon when we got there), so we had to take a 12 hour detour to Taipei and then stay the night (the few hours left of it) in HK when we finally got there.
And after all that, the scariest part of the trip was still the taxi ride from the airport at Shanghai. By far.
Anyway, alive and well in a really swanky hotel room, looking forward to some sleep…
