Delayed due to lack of internet access….
We left Vienna on a foggy, frosty afternoon for Prague which is about 4hrs by train. After a little confusion, a few ‘unfriendlies’, 2 local trains, a demonstration with police barricades and a tram ride, we were met by our host and arrived at our little apartment in the heart of the small city.
Our building is wedged between the American and German embassies and the Prague police station. The police cars seem to be tearing up and down the cobbled road at all hours of the day and night. There is also a road block for checking under and in every car entering the street because of the US embassy.
Prague is a lovely old medieval city similar to the Tuscan villages but on a much larger scale. At night it is beautifully illuminated and you feel that you have traveled back in time with castle towers and palaces at every turn. Apart from Switzerland, everywhere we have traveled there have been cobbled streets, and these are the most ankle-threatening yet.
We found an old monastery today with an old wine cellar that had been converted into a restaurant (in 1983 – what a good year!) where we enjoyed a romantic and delicious lunch.
We have decided to leave Barcelona for another trip as we would not do it justice with the time we have. Our lovely host arranged for us to be chauffeur driven to the airport when we left Prague for Paris.
