‘Fangio’ aka Bruce has earned his new nickname after thoroughly enjoying driving (with ‘yours faithfully’ navigating) the winding, narrow country roads of the Tuscany region over the last three days. Don’t worry Mum(s), he is being very responsible. Check out Fangio with his little Peugeot!
We have explored the different regions of Tuscany which vary in landscape quite considerably – beauty and charm at every turn. We both love the ‘Tuscan’ style – rustic, earthy, simple – eg potted succulants, riotous colour cascading from terracotta pots, ledges and balconies, beautiful tiles, old buildings and simple furnishings.
The weather has been fantastic – mid 20s and we’ve been told that it is usually quite wet at this particular time of the year. The locals are even amazed at the beautiful weather, we are very lucky. This weather is perfect for visiting any of the thousands of gelaterias in Italy – here you can see I had to savour the delights of the ‘world champion gelato’ which can be found in San Gimagnano, yet another character-filled Tuscan village.
Talking of weather, we have also been warned that Switzerland, our next stop, has been very cold for the last few weeks. Tomorrow our journey takes us from our wonderful Italy to Switzerland via 4 trains. But we will return to this colourful, passionate country just before our return home.
